The scales of both gold fish have come off, and scales are hanging there, waiting to fall off, what could be the cause of this? Are they suppose to shed scales? Help........

Have you checked the water chemistry? If your water parameters are alright then could it be posssible the fish are spawning? Change in water temperature can bring on spawning habits. Some fish are very agressive when spawning.
The other possibility is a parasite such as skin flukes or lice.
Have you noticed your fish rubbing against the bottom of the tank or on decorations? Sometimes they are so irritated by either a water problem or by a parasite that they will try to scrape their skin.
Parasites can be treated. I use something called Paracid. I can use it in the pond or in the aquarium.
There are many treatments on the market at your aquatic store. You need to increase airation in your aquarium when using.

We have checked the water chemistry, it reads good. We have only the two fish, and it does appear as if the fish are mating! We do not know the gender of the fish, we've only had them about two weeks. I will now have to research what to do if they are in fact spawning! Thanks for the advice!
