Beta sick??
« on: January 09, 2011, 12:49:37 PM »

I have a male beta on his own in a 1.5 gallon tank. This morning I noticed him kind of 'flopping' on the leaves of plants and on the floor and didn't move round much, but he can swim fine. I took him out and changed the water. nitrate levels etc were fine, and put him back in, leaving only a thermometre and ornament in, everything else has been left out. Now he's at the top in the corner not moving. Temp is 70 degrees. There's no obvious signs of anything else from looking at him.

Can any one have a guess what's wrong?? Any more info needed just let me know.

Axwell,
What kind of water condtioner do you use?
there is something called Bettafix.  I would put that in the tank according to directions on the container.

Ugh...please switch to aqueon betta plus
It will provide minerals that your betta needs as well as condtion the water.
Anyway, your betta looks like it has a bit of fin rot going on...doesn't look healthy
Go to Petsmart and get 1) aqueon water condtioner and 2) bettafix.
Do more often water changes than once in awhile.
You have to vacuum the gravel or bad bacteria will build up in it.  Do at least 50% water.gravel vacs once per week, more often is even better. Smiley

Bettafix is made especially for Bettas but if you cannot get to the store today I would do another big water change and add melafix but get bettafix as soon as you can. Smiley

I agree with everything Mindemae said.
Apart from this, you can leave the plants in there as bettas love to rest or rock on their leaves sometimes.

Bettas don't live for much longer than 2-3 years usually so you never know if it was the disease, age or a mix of the both.

I'm sorry about your fishie Sad
