I think I understand why my tank has a ph of 7.6 as both tanks have the same ph and though I haven't tested my water yet, I bet it is around 7.6 because I think they add calcium to the water for us humans  Undecided D-a-m-n them!

I don't think my ph is going to become too acidic somehow. Clementine is doing much better and I hope only gets better from here. She won't eat in front of me still and is much more active when the lights are off, as I have been doing some spying. It's strange but it also makes sense. A sick fish would want to hide from it's predators so though she is feeling a bit better she may still feel sick so tries to hide when I'm the room to avoid being detected. Does that make sense? It's just a theory, as I have seen her swimming all over the tank when the lights are off. But hiding in the same corner when I'm there with the lights on.

Thanks Smiley I am trying to relax, I know this is what I have to do and not kill her with love.

Sunshine's tank is now the worry still, ammonia 0.50ppm and I am a bit confused about the nitrates. It's not the purple colour of 0.25ppm but it is not the light blue of 0 so I have feeling it is somewhere in between. Not good, but Sunshine is still fine. I know I have to act on this, but it's been a long time since I've had to deal with a problem like this. How often should I be doing water changes? Every second day?

I am sure Clementine will be fine and soon not hiding anymore when you're there.

According to Sunshine's tank sure you mean nitrites. Ammonia shows in a yellowish green colour and nitrites in blue purple. The nitrates show in orange red.
Yes, I'd do a w/c at this stage: 50% but add this Stability to the water. It should be added every day for the first week and then with every waterchange.

It's a good thing that your pH is a bit higher, goldfish prefer it that way Smiley

But do change the water (HALF OF IT!!!) whenever the test results show high ammonia. In other words, simply test every day and see when it's needed Smiley

Clementine has been acting so well and I've been trying to grow her and big strong with lots of nutritious and yummy food. As soon as I got home, I did a water change as it was time. I finished cleaning the tank and I noticed she has fin rot Sad Just a little bit taken out on her dorsal fin, now I am pretty sure this must have developed during the day as she did not have it yesterday!

Last time I tested the water (last Sunday) the water was fine and because Clementine has been acting fine, I wasn't going to test it again until tomorrow (24 hours after a water change). So right now I am unsure of the water quality because I don't think I will get a true result straight after doing a water change, I normally wait 24 hours. So that could be my problem there but I highly doubt it seeing as it is an established tank which has a much smaller fish in it than it use too and there was rarely traces of ammonia back then.

I dunno, I guess you guys can't help me until I do a test. For now I've done the water change of course and treated with melafix. Fin rot is caused by stress so that's what I'm thinking it is after all this. I may have been over feeding her slightly too.

Andrea, you done the right thing treating with Melafix. But are you sure it is finrot or only a tear in her tail?

I can't remeber, have you put her together with Sunshine yet? I might recall that you have.

No, definitely fin rot and it's in her dorsal fin. It looks like something has eaten it away.

She is also still by herself because of that mini cycle that the big tank was going through, I was seeing traces of nitrites!! It has only just finished cycling so that's why Clementine is still in the small tank. Looks like she will be staying for a bit longer.

I know how you feel,
we had a spur of ich in the tropical tank, lucky I seen it in the early stages but it gives you that sort of feeling, especially if you think all is right.

But at the same time we know what to do, if not we've got great support on here with each other and Minde and Nossie and few other members. And we care, we watch and observe our fishies. We know them like our children and react asap if sth is wrong.  Wink

Absolutely! I know the feeling so well Smiley My little Berry started showing symptoms of fin rot after about two weeks in quarantine too, so I treated them with some medication my mom uses for her fish against fin rot. But it's most important that they'll recover and be healthy afterwards! Then it simnply won't matter if they were sick before Smiley

Thankyou and yes that is the most important thing Nossie, after trying to keep them from getting sick in the first place with good water quality Tongue Well I tested my water last night and ph=7, ammonia=0, nitrites=0 and nitrates=somwhere in between 10 and 20. I really can't see a problem with the water and though I didn't test it before doing the water change, I still don't think there was a problem with the water. Maybe there was some slight traces of ammonia, I dunno very confusing  Huh

Clementine still has the fin rot, I know it takes much longer than 2 days to get rid of. So I'm still treating with melafix and I'll keep a close eye on the water. She is acting perfectly though, she now evens comes up the water surface when I open the lid because it's feeding time  Cheesy

Now I just need for this fin rot to go away and she can become buddies with Sunshine Smiley
