so sorry to hear of your loss. As goldfish like to have company I can imagine that your Lilly is missing Bubbles.

Sure she is NOT looking to get sucked up in the filter, does your filter not have a protection cap so the fish cannot get sucked in?

It could be.  Our four fish have "best friends" whom they school and sleep with.  In the meantime, talk to Lily and interact with her.  This may sound crazy, but if you have a picture of Bubbles, put it near the tank so she can see it.  I don't know how sophistacated a fish's brain is, but it can't hurt.  Ours recognize pictures of goldfish and videos of themselves, so who knows.

I say this because today my hubby and me experienced how beautiful it was when we moved Humphrey and Hepsiba into the big tank were Skippy was waiting for them.  When Humpsi and Hepsi swam out the bag Skippy came straight to them, nose to nose to nose. They seemed kissing each other. They just joined together soooo beautifully as if they were mates forever and a day.
As I had my day off today I could watch them most times: no bullying, only happy playing with each other. They are in one happy bunch almost ALL the time

I don't think you need to worry about the tear, from time to time, my black moor has had some smaller rips in his caudal fin, (so perfect, almost as if someone was there with scissors o_O) but it healed and was gone within 2 days on its own

Anyway, if I was you, I'd move her to the tank after about one week, because ONE goldfish doesn't produce that much waste in a suitably big tank Especially if it's a smaller fish But one one important condition: Test for ammonia and nitrite daily, and do small water changes (about 10-20% at most) whenever these levels grow dangerously high.

Fantails are rather quick when they want to ;> And there are those with a bit slimmer bodies, I've got a few like that And I think these could do alright with a common! But you should be careful during the first days, as Lily might bully any newcomers if she feels like they're intruding. I still would recommend buying a comet or shubunkin as her friend c:

OK, I will find out what goldfish the fish shop has and go from there. I didn't see any fantails, so I don't think we'll be getting one of those. Just wanted to let people know that Lily and Bubbles did love each other even though they swam at different speeds and Lily never stole Bubbles food, nor did he steal hers. Bubble was almost as round as a Bubble! - Hence his name.

I will try to move Lily this weekend, Friday would be ok, right? (Tank was set up Sat)
We will be out alot from Sat to Mon as it's a holiday here, so we'll be visiting relatives and helping to decorate a house.
I feel torn between leaving her where she is, as she has been ok so far, as much as I can tell, until Tuesday when I can make sure she is settling in ok. Or moving her on Friday and making sure she is settled in and ok by Sat morning, then leaving her in new tank hoping is she happier and less chance of injury, etc.

We'll be back each evening and leaving again each morning.

Maybe she would settle in better if we weren't peering in at her all the time for the first few days, I'm not sure?
