Flukes

Flukes are tiny microscopic parasites that lodge themselves in the gills of the. Symptoms of this infection are swollen gills that appear reddish or pinkish in color and laboured breathing. The gill infections will cause the fish to spend more time near the surface of the water in order to obtain more oxygen.

My bubble eye gold fish has red around the back of his neck and around his gills. Is this what you would call fluke?

Flukes are treatable with anti-parasitic treatments available over the counter in good aquarium shops. The best that I have found is Prazi Pro, which is extremely gentle and combats a wide range of parasites. It seems expensive, but a little goes a long way!
