I would say so, about the blood. I have quite the scar running from the base of my neck down to the end of my back now. Right now it is pretty ugly, but it should fade over time. Fortunately it is very clean and is healing nicely. The doctors sewed up the wound with special stitches that disolve after a bit, but I had a bit of "fishing line" with a little knot in it hanging out the top. I'm not used to looking so pale, not being a goth lol. Just haven't felt like my usual peppy self. You're right, about the body going into self-preservation mode...it's almost like getting run over by a bus and having to re-boot all over again...finally the IV tape is beginning to come off; that stuff is a pain, and can be found in mysterious places all over my body. Somehow I feel like a craft project between all the stitches and tape and glue.

I know what you mean about that tape, and those little round electrode thingy's they put on you for monitoring heart rate etc. I was still finding them weeks later too...

Lol I felt like a robot being hooked up to so many monitoring systems, IVs, etc...
I had some x-rays taken and was blown away by the new back I have. The screws are almost 4 inches long and are quite a sight. If anyone is interested I will post photos of the x-rays as soon as I can.

How are we ever going to get through an airport?
lol. My goodness, alleb key screws?...makes you wonder how difficult it was for the doctors to get those in there. I am more astounded by the modern era's abilities every day. I will see if I can get ahold of my x-rays as soon as I can, didn't think to take a picture of them while at my post-op appointment (one of those moments where you go, DUH?!) and thank you for your kind words.
Getting better every day!

I'd love to see the x-rays!! I don't know, got this obsession with mechanical/medical things...
Oh, by the way, mom had an infection in her kidneys last week, pretty severe one :/ I've been going to the hospital every day the last week to check on her, she's better now though! But it sure brought back the memories.
It's nice to know that things are slowly returning to normal for you
Are you in much pain still? :'/

omg Nossie I have some pics you would probably find interesting
although I think that they may be a bit graphic for this forum... its the inside of my lower leg, after my last accident the steel rod from the previous accident tried to break out of bone and caused this thing called compartment syndrome, where the leg swells up so bad that it starts to stop all circulation, to save it they open it up from ankle to knee on both sides of the leg, drug you up and leave it like that for a few weeks with a special drainage pump and bandage attached... you can see all the muscles and tendons and even bone in some places when they change the bandages, I was so amazed I just had to get pics
... sorry to hear about your mums infection, glad to hear she is on the mend...
and Goldiegirl you sound a bit more upbeat,
its great to hear your getting better each day. Cheers all > Ron.

Oh my, Nossie, I'm very sorry to hear about your mom's condition. I will keep her in my prayers.
I am in much less pain than I was initially, fortunately. I was able to sit up for over an hour and a half (with rests in between) and that was major progress. Even taking short walks down my driveway and back when the sun goes behind clouds...it's been really hot here lately.
Ron, oh my gosh that is amazing! It didn't bother you to see the bones and muscle tendons while you were recovering?
But glad to hear you were able to keep your leg after all that!
I do have sad news...when I was finally feeling well enough to check on my outdoor fish, I discovered that a racoon broke into my screen-covered pond and devoured 4 of my fish. Topaz, Mithril, Pyrite, and Coalette have passed on.

sorry to hear about the racoon breaking into your pond, what a bugger
... I am continually amazed at the list of predators that want your fish goldiegirl, I am now starting to worry that the local possums (one of them lives in our silky oak tree in the front yard) might break into our pond...
as for seeing the inside of my leg and my lack of concern, I think all the years we spent in animal and bird rescue had probably desensitised me a bit, I had seen them put back together many times by vets and sometimes had to assist them... I do remember asking a mate to take the pics of my leg, they took the bandage off and he took off as well... it gave me a laugh when I needed it, hehe
... its nice to hear your pain is regressing a bit and that you are taking some small steps to recovery... best regards > Ron

Ron: I'd probably be interested, very
But it sounds pretty horrible, I don't think I'd be able to look at my own legs being cut open like that
Goldiegirl: How great!! I'm so glad you're getting better
And then of course, very sad about the lovely fish
something just had to happen...
In other news, mom is back from the hospital, she didn't have fever for a few days now
And I got a little tattoo to celebrate
(A sort of rose + petals saying "MOM" and "DAD" Sailor Jerry style!
)
Oh, and yesterday I passed out for the first time in my life o_o Twice o_o I'm not entirely sure what happened or for how long I was down, but both my cheeks hurt, and I remember one of my arms hitting the wall. Got up in the middle of the night, feeling really weird/bad and then... *BLACKOUT* outside the bathroom D8 I'm glad I didn't hit the chest with metal corners that stands right next to the door... >>

Wow now a days doctors are stitching you up (man that hurts), sticking needles in your arms, taking out tonsils with laser
(Oh good thing I was asleep) and shoving nails in your back!!!

Yes, so far the raccoon has caused the most damage and is also the hardest to keep out. They use their little "hands" to rip the screening off the wood frame and staples (constructed this myself to keep out the snakes). Not only that, but they are expert fishers in the dark. Pretty ticked off about it; of course it had to happen while I couldn't do anything about it.
Nossie, glad to hear your mom is back.
and super weird about you passing out! I had a friend who got up in the night, fell, and hit her head on a high heel shoe on the floor, right on the point...glad you missed the chest!
Yes, Fantailer, modern technology...incredible. However, they didn't put
nails
in my back (you'd need a pretty solid hammer) but they drilled in screws.

Goldie: **** raccoon :C Is there a way to buy a more solid grid for the pond? Like all-metal? Maybe he wouldn't be able to pick that apart
Didn't your friend get a wound from that shoe? O_O
Fantailer: Screws stick a lot better than nails, which I'm sure you've noticed on wood already
You don't honestly think it was done with a normal construction drill, right? D:

Fantailer, Nossie is right, as creepy as it sounds, I they DO use a special medical drill to implant screws. I'd rather not think about it for long.
I have no idea about the metal. Fortunately he hasn't come back, and I'm able to go outside and check on my fish every day now that I'm better. Glad to report my back is almost back to normal, I can sit for quite a spell without any pain! Sooooo happy!
And no, my friend didn't get a wound, just a large bump. The shoe was more platformed and so she fortunately didn't get seriously hurt.

Nossie: I hope your mom gets better!!
My mom got a nail when she used to take karate thats why I said that. I wasn't thinking it would be done with a real drill
. But I have never heard of a drill used on people. I hope you don't blackout again.
Goldiegirl: I hope the raccoon looses its taste for goldfish. Good to hear your feeling better.
